Testing

With respect to stress......What do the rest of you do when dealing with a student that is stressed out only when taking a test?

I try to give them some extra time going over different example base on there test coming up

I always told my students that it is all in their heads. Just think it will be an easy test and just use commun sense to answer the question...

Make it fun. Let them study for an time together. Read some of the questions to them the day befor and see if they were really listing and reading. On some small test, let it be open book. I have even let them help each other on Excel test. They learn, have fun, and experance team work. Teamwork is neccessary in Medical office jobs.

How long have you been using the mp3 player? Is each instructor responsible for recording their own exams?

At our campus we use a mp3 player for oral testing.it works great and saves time for the instructor.

I instruct the students to read the question while covering up the answers. I believe some test takers; me included have a tendency to scan thru the answers before they fully reading the question and understanding what is being asked.

I will make some sample questions and explain to the student how all a,b,c,d, questions are all true false. If they will ask the question and then answer with a,{true or false}, b [true or false] and so on this seems to keep them comfortable with this type of question. how to look for key words and lookout for key words.

when reviewing the test,I explain how to break the answers down or the process of elimination,to find witch answer best fits the question.as if they where all state tests.

How much time do you take for this topic? Do you also deal with test anxiety?

i teach the student test taking skills, which gives the student confidence, which results in better test scores.

Is there a mechanism for exams to be presented orally to students who need that service?

What I do is to sit down with the student and read the test with him/her. Sometimes just hearing a caring voice will ease their tension and stress enough that the test just doesn't seem that hard anymore. Sometimes they just don't comprehend what the test is asking until they hear it read to them. I also tell all of my student that if they have any question or concern, please speak up so that I can help them to suceed.
