I'm not just an instructor

Being an instructor, a mentor, a person that students trust.
Help them succeed in college, and beyond. This is very gradifying to me.

Great attitude, Mark. Obviously, your experience has shaped your approach today. It's a nice way to be remembered by your students.

I believe in paying it forward. I was "that student" not so long ago, an di know someone went that extra mile for me, so I try to do the same.

If this isn't something everyone has, can it/should it be taught to them, Roger?

sometimes students just need someone to cheer them on and give reassurance. not everyone has that.

Powerful motivation, Mark. It's also important to keep reminding students about how successful completion of their course work will enhance their earning power.

I was extremely motivated to be more than an instructor to my students when I read a study that said one excellent instructor and role model can affect the future earnings of a student as much as $300,000 over their lifetime earnings. Thinking how much effect we can have makes me work to keep the student motivated and respect the process of working towards a goal.

Yes Paul Montano, this makes the students feel like you care and you are they cheerleader. Sometimes you are all the students have

I do believe as an instructor we can let the passion we had working in our given field be seen and felt by the student.

I agree. Sometimes it's our job to teach them to be students.

An excellent point, Farley. I know that my students see me as more than an instructor too. It helps to talk with them after class or in tutoring. It is quite amazing that my course in math can be fun to learn.

An instructor who can listen to students and give them support is a very suportive action and simple to do.

Instructors help students understand the theories of the skills but instructors also help students develope a professional behaviour.

Congratulations, Amy. It's true that we change lives. Not everyone can say the same thing.

I love my job! I can help people to better their lives and still be in a field that I am passionate about.

This is why many of us never tire of seeing the joy and excitement of students and their families at graduation. We have helped them transform their lives - and the lives of their loved ones.

I agree in the gratification one can achieve in this profession. It is amazing to see students come from almost nothing turn into professional and competent members of the medical environment.

You have to have a passion for teaching and wanting to see students suceed. I have had some teachers in my life that just did not care about you as a student. I am still intouch with the students from my very first class.

Gratification is certainly worthwhile. And that should be our primary reason for instruction. Our goals should also include enforcing student need for gratifying experiences.

Point well made, Valentina. Instructors with high standards are often among the most popular because their students understand they care about student outcomes in the course.
