We must work towards reducing student anxiety issues and have them more comfortable to present issues affecting them.
Would you be willing to share your inspirational poem, Vida? Perhaps it would be useful to others.
I try have an inspirational poem I read to my students on the first day of class and then again on the last day. I always encourage them to come to me with anything, even if they feel it is something petty. I tell them that if it is bothering them, then I would like to hear it. We can determine at that point how significant it is and look for a solution together. I do on occassion have those students that you know have something going on, but when you ask say everything is fine. I would like to know how to get them to open up. Those are the ones we end up losing, but not for lack of trying. It will be intersting to see how the Survey and Vertical approach help with this.
