Student success

I believe, and agree with the statement that EVERYONE in the institution must understand that student success is the primary measure of our institutional success. And, with that being stated, I feel that our institutions Orientation should include ALL instructors. Since there is only one chance to make a first impression, I feel it would benefit both students and our school to put our best foot forward, and be introduced as Professionals to our students during Orientation.

when our school has a new class starting, every instructor has to go in the class to introduced themselves and give some insights on the professional background

The more i teach the longer look i take at some of the students and their ability to learn different ways. I think that some students need a little push sometimes to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

I think that some people think of retention as merely an institutional imperative, based on a concern for the bottom line. I believe that everyone in the institution needs to recognize that in this, the students' needs and those of the institution go hand-in-hand. We keep retention high by helping students succeed, and then we succeed.

We teach because we want to see success in our students. I agree that this is more than just being in the classroom. The entire institution plays a part in the sucess of both the student and the instructor from registration to the classroom instruction. All these elements are important for the success of the student.

It's unfortunate that retention is a dirty word to many because, for them, it is associated with negative practices. Retention is all about helping students succeed - even when it may not be convenient or easy.

Wow Brenda I could'nt agree with you more. The longer I teach, the more I realize how much more I need to learn. Never thought about retention before this CEE. I am always trying to see things from a different point of view. The student is the customer and I as an instructor need to remember that.
