Retention is based on relstionships
Many returning students feel unsure and afraid of failing. If we help develop relationships to support students, it will be less likely that a student will quit by surprise. Someone will get to the student before matters get worse. Great information was provided to help get a program started thank you.
Sounds good, Ivan. How do you make them comfortable enough to connect with you?
I feel establishing a comfortable business relationship.Relieves pressures of the student. If they feel they can come to you in stressful situations, and you provide an ear to listen too,it helps them have a sense of release.in addition to keeping them motivated.and keeping them positive under any and all situations.
I think having a good relationships to students increases the retention. the fedbacks that we got from the exit interview from our institution is that staff have a caring attitude, a caring attitude develop trust. A trustful relationship will result a students retention.
I do agree strongly! Retention is based on relationships.. I believe, much of the time. If we as faculty or administration have taken the time to convince the student WE CARE, WE BELIEVE YOU CAN BE SUCCESSFUL and I AM HERE FOR YOU- we are more likely to keep the student enrolled. There is not doubt that issues will come up, but the student is more likely to reach out to someone for help before stressors take over!
Sor Angel, why would a student return if they feel unsure or are afraid of failing? The problems that led to their withdrawal should be resolved before trying again.
