retention
How is a instructor able to keep students retained in a course that they findout later in the course that they aren't physically or mentally capible of doing?
Had students that found out this course wasn't for them. we then offered other courses that was available and we did find a fit for the student
I agree with this assessment
Students have the right to fail, but it is immoral to put them in a situation where their failure is preordained. If we accept them into a program we assume a certain level of responsibility for their success.
I agree - every student has the ability to learn, they just may need extra assitance or more guidance. Maybe extra tutoring may help, or modifying the material presenting so that they can follow along and hopefully tell you what they are having difficulty with.
Terrell, we have an obligation to do everything in our power to help them succeed. It is not our job assignment to judge their mental or physical capabilities but provide a service. Oftentimes a student may have a learning disability or deficit and you may need to provide alternative testing for them. (In this case, professional documentation is required.) Sometimes it could be an instructor's lack of understanding learning styles and a different teaching approach or methodology may be required. When it comes to teaching, one-stop-teaching method may be useless. Try a different approach and see the results! You would be amazed.
