retention
finding new ways to keep students excited
Georgia, I must disagree with your last statement. Yes we absolutely should do all we can as instructors to keep students in school. But there will always be students who do not care, do not communicate and end up dropping out. If we do all we can and students drop anywy, how can one say the instructor failed?
Retention carry a heavy weight upon all institutions and instructors as well. Therefore, to develop a plan to be effective will require schrewd planning and a personal touch. All students need to feel a sense of connection and that the instutution cares then it can minimize the chances of losing them.
At our school we treat our student body as one. We include all different cultures with repect and honor. We have such as muti-cultural day and a map on the wall for all student to pin point where they are from, we let them know that we as a school of staff and instructors care about them at the same time we are helping them to achieve their profession. I feel if you feel that you belong you will stay.
Retention is and should be one of the most important objective to an instructor. As an instructor we should find out our students strength and weeknesses and help them alone the way. There are no failed students there are only failed instructors.
