Universal Retention Strategies
While there is not a "one size fits all" retention strategy, there indeed are a "core set" of tenets that are fundamental for establishing, then customizing a comprehensive institutional strategy.
I think the wisdom offered in this thread would be a good foundation for a successful professional development training program. Great thoughts, folks.
I like Steve's tenets and would add these simple truths. Work with purpose. And enjoy what you do. Take on the challenge of expanding a students potential and show up at graduation and find your reward.

Good points David. What would you include in your core set of tenets?
I would agree with your assessment because those core tenets should include sincere caring, encouragement, and action. How one goes about them is based on several factors. Who am I dealing with, what is the concern, and even, dare I say, the field of study.
