Course Objectives
It is very important that the students are aware of the course objectives on the very first day so they are not surprised when information is presented.
Cristian--
You are absolutely correct. Stating and following clear expectations and outcomes is fulfilling and important.
Susan
i agree with this statement, however, i would add, clear instructions and objectives during the entire class is very important to maintain the student focus, and a feeling of fullfillment of expectations
I agree with your statement. It is integral to provide the students with an idea of what they may expect to learn from the course they have enrolled in.
Michael--
Excellent point about not asking questions. No one likes to appear as if they are the only one who doesn't understand. Sad fact is if they have a question, most likely several others do as well.
Susan
I agree. How can anyone be expected to reach an objective if it's not really clear what that objective is?! Students have enough stress, and doubts, without feeling unsure of what's expected of them, and maybe also feeling they may be the only one that doesn't understand.
Remember, many students won't ask questions for fear they'll appear foolish in front of their peers.
Thomas--
Right you are! Communicating clear expectations for the classroom is very important. No one likes surprises and students will generally rise to the level we expect.
