Attendance

I work at a school that has new starts every week and I do Student Affairs. It is hard for me to take care of over 450 students by myself, does anyone have suggestions on rentention, or attendance that I can somehow communicae with the new students on their 1st week of school?

Nicole ,

Excellent observation. Part of going to school is learning how to behave on the job. That means good attitudes, excellent attendance, etc.

I educate in the Cosmetology Department and I try to be real about the future. I tell the students up front about what's to come. I was told,"what you do in school,is what you do when you get out." I try to help them get an understanding, so they can stay in school and reach their gaol.

Call a meeting with all students, and hold an open disscusion.

Charles--

Excellent! Love the analogy. Thanks for sharing.

I like to use a little story I call "The Buffet". I will tell this story right after lunch on the first day of class. I like to start by asking the class if they had a good lunch. Then I start talking about how much I like going to a buffet for lunch because I get to eat as much as I like. In short, the story goes on about how I can never leave the buffet without overeating because I want to get my money's worth. I then relate that information to the school and how we are a buffet of knowledge. Any time you miss school, you are missing the "buffet". I tell them "It's your money, you paid for the buffet, it's time to overeat, grab a second plate."

You need a to hire an assistant that can take care of the immediate needs of the students.
