orientation
allow the faculty instructors participate in the orientation day
James--
You are absolutely correct about faculty involvement and their role in helping students transition.
Susan
It is important to allow faculty to be involved with orientation, because we are the people involved with the student, and it will help the student to feel more at ease when the student comes to class.
Nancy--
Great point. Faculty are a critical part of exceptional retention.
Susan
It is imperative that the students, especially at a career college met the faculty because we ARE the reason that they are coming here, besides the dream of their future. We become mentors and leaders to them and, by meeting them at orientation, they start the continuity of trust. Retenttion begins at the beginning and carries through and a familiar face makes them comfortable in a stressful situation that classes can be.
Not only should faculty particpte, they should have an integral role in the orientations as they are the ones who have the most direct contact with the stidents during their education.
