Director of First Impressions

...is what an Admissions Advisor is. He/she must be knowledgeable and personable because that is what the students perception of the school will be based on.

I agree. It is very important to share information about the current state of the industry; opportunities and realities. This information provided to the student is very important. They may forget many things they hear;however, information about career/job oportunities are one they lsiten very attentively too.

This is a great question and one you want to tak care of right away. The straightest line to resolution is always the best. So I would definitely address it with the student making the assumption that the admissions representative did not have the correct information. The worst thing you can do is discredit the representative.

I would then immediately to directly to the representative and address it with them, again making the assumption they didn't have the correct information. It will go much better if you take that approach.

Finally, I would send an email to the Director of Admissions and let them know of the issue and that you have provided the correct information...you may also offer to come to their next meeting to discuss your program.

As a faculty member how would you suggest dealing with both the student and admissions rep if they are making false promises during the enrollment process?

It is also very important to have a very close relationship with your admissions team to make sure the information they are providing is true/accurate.

William--

Very true! It is extremely important to set realistic expectations about career opportunities early.

Susan

That's correct and the director also must provide a realistic view into the condition of the industry which the training and education supports to better direct the decision making process of that prospective student.

I agree. They also have to be accurate. Having an open and frequent dialog with those that are involved with the students day in and day out will help keep their knowlege current.
