I think learning should be an enjoyable experience. I try to have fun with my students, making it a safe place for them to learn and make mistakes. I try to do an activity during the first week that does not necessarily have to do with my curriculum. It might just be a silly ice breaker activity but I try to get to learn a bit about them as an individual, I feel this make a big difference in getting them to want to be in my class.

As much as possible, I think hands on opportunities where they get to put to practice some 'real life' skills is always encouraging.
