I agree that first impressions are very important, because if a student is even the least bit on a rocker, in terms of making a decision to stay in school or quit, if your first impression is of ill will that just may be the thing that pushes him over the edge to quit.

When a teacher is new to the field it is easy to think you are focusing on the student when you are actually focusing on yourself. I have have made this mistake when I was new. What I have learned is to always look at things from the students perspective. They have a blank mind that can obsorb possitive or negative feelings.

I completely agree. This is something I struggled with in the beginning of my career as an instructor because, I was new, and very young. Now a year later I've observed other teachers methods, as well as creating my own and it has really worked out very well for me.
