Student Expectations

Student age, maturity, and SES influences how well they perceive their possibility for academic success.

I believe that students must feel supported from faculty and staff because if they are one of the many that don't have support from family and friends it will connect them to the institution which will aide in retention.

This is so true. However with many of my students their lives can prevent development of close ties with their fellow classmates. Having instances of group projects help to break the ice and get them to get closer in the classroom which hopefully will translate to greater outside the classroom interaction.

Jaimee,

Absolutely true! Unfortunately, so many of our students sometimes have no family support.

I believe that social support (family and friends) also influences how well students perceive their possibility for academic success. This is one of the reasons it is so important that they build connections while in school.
