Orientation to class

One of the things I like to do during orientation is to have the students interview each other and share their dreams and aspirations with each other. They then share them with the class to see how they have similiar or differing goals. This gets them excited and reinforcing their decision to attend culinary school.

I do the same thing - have each student introduce him/herself. However by the time the students get to my class they have been 'together' for about 8 months, so they know each other already. Sometimes I feel like they have some 'introduction fatigue'.

I agree with you strongly that incoming students interack with each other will most likely be helpfulo

I agree, I believe talking about goals, stimulates the excitement of why they are here.

That is a good idea . I like to try and get students to interact with each other moreso than with me so that they can get a feeling of belonging to a group before i beging with class .

This is excellent...it gets the students interacting with each other and they are more likely to share with one person rather than the entire class.

I always have each student stand up at the beginning of class to introduce themselves to the other students, tell their background and were they ara from.
