Getting everyone in your school on the same page
Sometimes i s aproblem when you have different points of views and opinions...anyone to share???
I agree very much. Everyone has there own style to teach as well as learn. When there is a new teacher filling in and the students are not use to her or him teaching your not sure if they are going to give her or him a hard time so I just explain whether it seams like a great day or they had a hard time that it is important to take everything you have learned and turn it into a learning experience or stepping stool. Never ever put an instructor down we are all working for whats best for our students and not what we feel is right or wrong. There is no manual in life. You just learn to work as a team.
Patricia,
What an important lesson to learn--there are almost always different paths to accomplishing a task.

I think most instructor or maybe all instructor are on different page--we all came from different learning styles. But in the end--it comes out the same. But I have to admit--students do challenge when a new method is shown and students are use to what another instructor has done. THe students start saying "the other instructor did nto know what he or she was doing" or "he or she likes the other instructor methods". I just tell the students " there are NO wrong or right way to perform a method-but its anotehr method of learning if you want to use it and might make the student comfortable with the new style" I NEVER down an instructor! some students like to see that happen
Christina--
I agree. We need to show our students how to think for themselves. It seems that this is a skill more and more unusual.

There may be issues, but differing points of view can also be a great learning tool and experience. Opinions are great, but we should never impose them upon our students. I feel each instance where a person has some experience or a point of view (even different from mine) can create a learning opportunity.
After 15 years experience in Career School training, getting everyone on the same page isnt as easy as it would appear to be sometimes. However, I do believe in career training as a previous career school graduate myself oh so many years ago, my heart indeed is for the student. Non-traditional training means NON-TRADITIONAL STUDENTS. Isolating the differences is also an important factor with Instructors understanding the necessary flexibility without impropriety. :)
Frank--
As the saying goes, there is more than one way to skin a cat. But I have found that while everyone has differing ideas on how to retain students and what their role is, we need to stay focused on the fact we are all committed to assisting students. If we can keep that at the center of our discussions, then I think it makes things much easier.
