Istitutional Connections
All Faculty should be working closely to ensure that as best that we can we all are on the same page. This maybe difficult at times, but if we make an effort all students would benefit. We need to know something about each department to better serve our students and give them direction for questions that we are not familiar with.
Also this is very important because it helps the new student feel a new connection than just thier admissions coordinator. Since they are entering the transition from future student (dealing with the admission coordinator) to active student where they will be 99% of the time interacting with thier instructor and other education factulty members it is important the student makes that connection with thier instructor, program manager, etc. Orientation is a great way for interaction and setting expecations for the first day of class.
I think it is incredibly important for all the departments to be aware of the other, because it provides a sense of unity and communication for students.
When students ask questions, if we cannot answer them -- at least we can refer them to the department or person that can. Great point!
Bill ,
I agree; everyone needs to be on the same page. Do you have regular faculty meetings that help to build the understanding across disciplines?
