Progressive Orientation

I think the idea "where students, either as individuals or in groups, travel from department to department to gather the important information," is great. It helps break down the walls of fear by helping students get to know the school, departments, and faculty before the first day of school.

I am the person who coordinates and manages the new student orientations at my campus. I think this is a great ideal. The way our building is designed it is a big circle. So it would be easy to have the students walk in a circle from te admisssions back to the same department. Great ideal .

Kathleen,

I always liked the Wall of Fame idea. It is encouraging to students new and returning.

It sounds like a good idea, but it can be difficult to manage. We experienced some incoming students being frustrated by the process. It helps to have lots of hands on deck to help direct the flow of traffic to make sure you don't lose anyone in the process. To assist in "breaking down walls" as you said, we have a Wall of Fame on campus with photographs and biographies of faculty, our leadership team, student finance and career services so that students have an area to put names with faces and learn a bit about the employees on campus.
