Day 1
Being prepared for students with setting all expectations from day 1 will set the tone for the class.
Lisa,
That's a great question. Perhaps 'sprinkling' the foundational information in with curriculum is a nice blend.

I'm happy to hear that others are continuing orientation on into the first week. It seems impossible to cover everything necessary in a few hours at orientation. Students are bombarded with so much information at orientation I feel they don't retain half of it. Our classes are in 3 hour blocks, 4 days a week, and I take at least two additional days to cover expectations and review course syllabi. How many days are reasonable to use to cover this important information? I know students are always excited to get started on the curriculum but the foundation is so important for success.
I agree. My day 1 is to always to set the tone, understand what is to come and how i will help you get there.
I agree I do the same. I am also a graduate from the same place I teach so, I always let my students know that from day one to let them know the can and will succeed.
Jennifer ,
I agree! The first day can get them very motivated for the entire class.

Day one is almost the most important day because thats either where the students decide or feel they can make it or they will not. Day one of my classes i reassure constant help and tutoring, fun, and professionalism. While sharing my experience and personal history about my self i show i am a normal personal and they have all the ability to succeed. I share with them that i believe in every single one of them and we will do this together. Day one sets the tone but always can create confidence in many students.
