Unified Front
I believe the faculty set the tone for the entire experience. They're on the front lines. It's important that any frustrations with the institution not be shared with the students.
I couldn't agree more! A disgruntled faculty member can sabotage a class.
I have seen this happen with faculty and students too.
My colleagues and I try to redirect the negative energy during those moments by asking questions/referring students to the proper avenues for their grievances. In every conflict there is an opportunity for us to learn or improve something for everyone.
I too have seen this but it is usually between students. One student will have a bad experience and start spewing negative thoughts. I try defuse the situation by talking to the students as a whole and let them know that one experience is not that of the whole. We then discuss how the situation might have been handled better or different so that the outcome not be so bad.
So agree with you. I have seen this happen and it turns students against the school.
