Expectations

It's important to have interesting skills to keep the students attention. This also helps the retention.

i try to get them involved in setting goals for the time they are in school and the reasons they came to school in the first place.and to tell them that life gets in the way sometimes and when your ready to quit remember why your here! whats your futures like without schooling and what the plus side of staying is.

It is important to asked the students on the first day of class what are their expectations. This will give you a clear understanding of each student expectations. Take quick notes, this will help you setting your course.

I think that attention and retention are closely related. Every time a student gets more interested due to an act by the instructor or by a subject that entertains them, their retention always goes up.
