intro
I find it hard sometimes to brag myself up , I am a very modest person , sometimes I feel I didnt give them enought information about myself.
Mervin--
Excellent points and you are correct...the credibility goes a long way to help retention.

I don't consider it braging to give my background and what my work history has been. It shows that I have done the work that we are going to teach. Its not just ideas comeing from my self or someone else its real experience.
The credibility of the instructor should be established in an introduction as well as a short introduction as far as what makes him or her tick. I think that this should in part model an introduction by each student. They might state their expectations (or you might ask) to see if those are realistic and what should have been communicated. We are not trying to impress the student but want them to know that we are capable of delivering the goods that they expect.

It can seem awkward to do that. Don't think of it so much as 'bragging' as letting them know about your background. The point, of course, is to build your credibility for the subject matter but you can do it in such a way as to not feel like you are boasting.

Hello, I used to feel that way, but I have noticed that the self intro is the student will connect with me. The more I include the field they're being trained in with my personal experience the less tense the class remains. I also have the students introduce themselves.
