First Week

Set the pattern for the course and allow students to give feedback. Ask students their expectations of the course and school in general. I always ask what their major is and why did they select that particular profession. This gives students a chance to relax and opens them up to share ideas.

After crosstraining with Fountaions 1/Sanitation, which are their first class to attend, I have found that it is very important to stay in constant touch with our students for atleast for the first two weeks, this includes calling when absent, directing them to their new classes or other resources they may need. I think it makes them feel as if they made the right decision in come to this school.

In our case its not just a major that they selected its are youserious about going into this profession. Its not like on TV.

Bill ,

Great! It sounds like this would also give you some real insight as to their motivation for the profession.
