The culture of my classroom and the type of student in it have changed quite abit over the last couple of years. The students are younger and it's not in there make up to show someone respect until they have earned it. I have developed a, almost like a character in a play, that I use to model my behavior when I am in front of them or with them in the lab. I address the students using courtesous and professional surnames, try to remain sensitive to what's going on with them but not get too close and hold them accountable for the standards they were given.
Thanks, Tony.
What do you to to try to identify students facing similar issues that do not "complain' to you? a lot of our students seem to suffer in silence.
I found that talking to students who complain about certain things are usually having personal issues like money problems. And just simply talking to them and asking how they are doing and asking them is there anything that I can do to help will get them to open up to you and they will alot of times feel better about what is happening in there life and do better in class and at school.
Thank you for this post, Roy.
What are some of the specific things you do to accomplish these goals?
