Mentoring
I believe it is very important for students to have a mentor. It will help them know what it takes to succeed. Both the Mentor and the Mentee, so to speak, benefit from the relationship.
Fatina,
"I'm surprise you made it, because I actually didn't think you would." These do not sound like inspirational words.

Yes, this is a great example of having a mentor. I remember my days in college and how home sick I was. Looking back makes me think if I have had a mentor, I would have probably excelled in classes better than I did. It makes a huge difference when you have that one person who sees something in you that others don't. I remember when I graduated and once of the staff at my college said to me "I'm surprise you made it, because I actually didn't think you would." Those words I use to help keep me going.
I agree with your assessment. By being a good mentor, not only are you being responsible and setting a great example, but you are re-enforcing principles and practices within your own self.I believe that this is a self taught method that will mold and shape the facilitator into becoming better and better at their own job over time. Some people are "naturals" at doing this but most of us practice and become better mentors as time goes on and we practice this methodology often. This will also allow us to build a healthy relationship with our students and give them the feeling of well being and that they are cared for. Mitch Becker
yes especially when the student is from out of town and has family back home, A mentor can soften the home sick feeling, build up confidence and accelerate the student's leaning ability.
