You are right about that. If the student's vision doesn't match what reps said and differs from what teachers are teaching... the result is a drop. So, link early in the new start process.

That is true! The better that expectations match delivery, the better the successful results and, therefore, retention.

You are right, let's not tell students half-truths as it pertains to academic rigor. It is not what you say... as much as it is, "how you say it." It all needs to be linked to the student's career goals and job vision. If the link is solid, students will stay in courses.

I definitely agree that preparing students will ensure their success in their degree program. I think of the most important aspects to stress is the academic rigor associated with the degree program. I have come across many students that are surprised that the courses require as much studying as traditional schools. If the student is unprepared, this can hurt student retention. I would definitely advocate informing students of the expectations of the degree as part of the admission process.

Yes, Terry. Always help the student to understand expectations. Remember, students really don't want to study, they want the knowledge to "get the job." 96% of all students want a job and school scares them. So, help them to understand how the school will help them to get a job.
