The more prepared the student on expectations of success the better.

Ashley,

The checklist is a very good device. Setting up correct student expectation is so important to retention.

Dr. Ron Hansen

It is so important that the students expectations match what the program offers. Many times the reasons students drop out is because their expectations were not met by the school. Ideally, that could be avoided with aforementioned checklists and having the admissions rep make sure that the student is fully aware of what they are getting involved in.

dan,

They sure do. The key is to share success stories and to show students how the faculty can help them to learn what they need to know to be successful in the work place.

Dr. Larry Banks

I agree with that, especialy when students get to chat with teachers during orientation, and get more motivated on day 1, and have better expectation and understanding for the rest of their scolarship, until they graduate.

Justin,

I love that you say the words, "motivate." This is the key!

Dr. Larry Banks

Getting off on the right foot is always a best practice. It begins a positive momentum which can help the student succeed.

Preparing the new students with an informative orientation is extremely important to their success. It's such a great way to start their journey on the right note. The school I work for uses this opportunity to motivate each student and it's very fun event.

Francisco ,

I so much agree with you. Avoid the administrative type of orientation.

Dr. Larry Banks

Orientation is the key to an door to success. The importance is to have a positive orientation experience to start positive.

joseph,
