Extended Orientations

Our typical orientation for our program lasts about 2 hours and we cover the most important items from the catalog and school policies. I am searching for new and exciting ways to engage the students from day one and implement extended orientations. Doe s anyone have any success stories, or suggestions that have worked for you?

In our Culinary school at NSO's we also cover the most important items from the catalog and school policies. In addition we have all the chefs line up in front of the incoming students, introduce themselves and what class they teach. This is very powerful and gives the students their first introduction the faculty.

Ward,
Excellent. This will help students to connect and link to the profession.

In our Culinary school my favorite part of orientation has always been the meet the Chefs segment. We as Chef instructors get the chance in the very beginning to set the pace for our new students. We answer questions and tell them what they can expect and what will be expected.

Yunda,

Ice-breaking activities work great, Yunda. The key is to help students to see that they can succeed.
