What kind of activities do other schools use online?
We use all types of media to contact the students such as texting, flyers, postcards and emails. We also send them the newsletter to keep them informed of things happening around the school
While we also have a "Facebook" type of social media center, most of our online classes also have assignments where students not only have to answer the questions in the assignment, they must also respond and think critically about other students work in the same way we are participating in these forums. This is one way that students get to know each other and can help each other even though they may not be able to meet face to face.
Some schools use blogs or Social Media similiar to Face Book to promote online participation.
Our school and the program I am working in uses web based training extensively. Knowing that the students spend liesure time on their Blackberry's or computers we have done trivia contests successfully.We know that most of them will look up the answers online. Some answers will not be found online and students are urged to talk to people in the related departments for the answers.
