Community Involvement
One of the things we do at our school is to participate in a lot of community events. It is a great way to get our students involved together when we do special events for various charities such as Ronald McDonald House, Children's Hospital, and the local military base for wounded soldiers. The students not only have fun but form bonds while practicing their cooking skills.
Leticia,
Some schools include community service as a Service Learning component in their program. You might want to consider this as an option.
Ron Hansen, Ed. D.
Community involvement is very important. We always have events posted for charity events that are happening in and around our city. We encourage our students to step back out to the community and donate their time. What we see our students who volunteer for events is a sense of accomplishment and a look into what it is like to help others. It makes them feel good and excited for their future career. This really helps retention especially for struggling students.
MOHAMMED ARIF,
The community also comes to know the school better and how the staff and students contribute to the community and beyond.
Ron Hansen, Ed. D.
Yes. Students involving in activities are more likely to do better. They tend to be more attached to the school and look forwrd to be successful. They come to know the people around the school and tend to get more help and are more social and no afraid to ask for help when needed.
The activites also helps in all round development of students and to be more successful.
The fact is, that our students ARE the future community. The more involved they are, the better this future community will function and thrive. Our student will direct the communities of the future, and integration into that community as a student as early as possible is vital to positive transitions.
Brian,
Wonderful. This builds relationships and relationships equate to trust.
