student attention span

i found it important to constantly have interaction and keep students attention in order to keep there interest in the topic being discussed.

Moving around, tone of voice and good humor work for me.

Dr. Hansen,
We have not had formal trainings in mentorship, so most of the activities are one-on-one in nature. However, at In-Service events throughout the year, the faculty does engage in discussions regarding effective mentoring, John E

John,

Is this a formal training or one-on-one intervention with the instructor? What has worked best at your school?

Ron Hansen, Ed. D.

I have seen first hand on our campus both the positive benefits of an interactive and engaging style of teaching versus a more aloof, lecture based style. The retention outcomes are often dramatic. Our supervisors are working with an Instructor who teaches in the more traditional lecture style to open this individual up to more involved, more interactive style of teaching to help his students in class, and to improve retention, John E

Edwin,

The real world stories are essential. It what makes a career school different. You may want to consider an even shorter attention span. Say 7 to 8 minutes. Yes, our increasingly electronic/digital life continues to minimize attention span.

Ron Hansen, Ed. D.

I like to call my stopping points - Squarel moments. Normally, attentions spans commonly last no more than 15 minutes. I try to divert their attention with anicdotal data and real world stories.... this often carries great weight withthe students and lends to the interpersonal relationship I share with them.
