Student trust
Students appreciate when instructors keep them on track, are respectful and patient, and go the extra mile by providing study notes, worksheets, and other tools for the student to be successful.
Jeannette,
What do the student evaluations for this instructor look like? Attendance in class? Drops? Failures? Use data to show the instructor is not as effective as they could be. Or if this is something you want everyone to do make it part of the job description and the course materials.

I agree. My instructors who go the extra mile have students who are eager to come to class resulting in persistence.
Most of my instructors are excellent at this. I have one who is resistant to providing any additional study guides, notes, review materials, etc as he feels this "gives the information away." All of my other instructors are fully on board with this process.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to encourage him to engage with the students more?
I love this quote! Must "borrow it" from time to time, when hours are short, it's easy to forget this is what we should always do.
John ,
Frequent and consistent communications helps.

Tim,
Outside the classroom too.

So true! It is very important that the student knows that their instructor cares. There are a lot of ways too communicate with students to include knowing their name to help put them at ease and help develop that positive experience.
The trust factor can go a long ways. It travels well in the class room.
Corey,
A great quote. Thank you for posting.

I have always liked the quote from John C. Maxwell, "people don't care how much you know until they know how much you care." Students have the ability to determine if someone is genuine. It is important to do your best and help every student. The potential of each person is endless, but sometimes they just need help realizing that.
Yolanda,
A caring helpful instructor helps build the student's confidence in the school.

i agree, especially when dealing with adult students, going the extra mile encourages the students that as an educator you have their best interest in mind evident by treating them with great respect for making a career choice toward a better and rewarding future.
