Student integration
If a student is doing well in his/her studies and focus on keep going to class isn't he/she "probably" persist in school? or is not enough for a sutdent to persist in school.
Dr. Banks please enlighten me.
AS with your experiance being persistent is not always enough. I have seen many students that are persistent, but because of "rocks in the road" drop from college. Trying to show them what is on the other side of the "rocks in the road" will many times help get the student through the problem. Having a system that shows them if they persist they can get that job and a better life. They may just need to know that the college and the personnel there will help if given the chance.
Inviting students to participate in volunteer activities can sometimes be helpful in involving/integrating students.
How about the student who has made contact with employers who are interested and are willing to take the student on before they finish the program?
In my personal experience, students need more. I was a single mother of two when first beginning my education many years ago. I was intelligent, focused, and motivated. I still needed more to help me persist when times were tough. So, in essence, persistence is not enough.
Yes, attending and grades is an indicator of student success. However, adding a few other touch points helps students to persist. For example, if staff have an excellent "relationship" with the student... the student is likely to talk about concerns or issues. How do you get a relationship? Advising or mentoring. Does this make sense?
