After some of my students graduate, I exchange phone numbers and let them call me. I do this because it gives me edification about the job placement after graduation and i relay this to my new classes.
I tell my students myreal life stories. Be GOOD at your chosen task. Don't try to "buck" the system. Hold to the rules and ethics. I tell them how I became a factory technical rep with out a college degree because I was GOOD at my job, then expand on that to encourage them to push to their highest potential.
I do this all the time in my class. It will help the students understand that just because they come to school they still have to do the work to become what there goal is.
Take the time to let them "see" your experiences. Is there a way that you can do that? Remember, 90% of what we learn is through our eyes.

I like to tell my students about my experiences on the job, whether they are good or bad, they are all learning experiences, and it shows the student that you do and can survive the good and the bad.
