Employment Services

Some students already have a job lined up when they graduate. That is one of the reasons why they come here. Other students like the industry but do not know where they want to go. Some students like to relocate and not return to their home state and some students do. Having an employment services staff on site always gives a good impact on retention. This will aid the undecided student and keep retention up.

Lisa,

The first thing to examine is when students are first introduced to the department. Career Services (or whatever name) should be at Orientation and start working with students in their first course.

Ron Hansen, Ed. D.

This is an area our school can improve on. Often times during surveys the response is "don't know about this dept" or "haven't used yet". We are obviously not adding value to this service if the students are disconnected from it.

We have an active placement department. They will also help students look for part time work while enrolled if they don't qualify for numerous work-study programs.

James,

The key is to get career services involved early and often.

Dr. Larry Banks

Employment services are important to the student, gives them a reason to do well in school, so they can be prepared for the work force, and knowing about quantity of work for the feild they have chosen.

Mike,

I agree with you 100%. Attendance is very important. Many times employers are more interested in better attendance than they are about grades. An employer once told me I do not care how good your grades are because if you are not here I cannot train you.

i agree compleatly wit one added note.
we as instuctors should always remind the student to acheive the higest attendance and grade and to use a facilatys nessasary to maintain good attendance and grade so when they graduate job placment will go easyer for them and more doors will be open.
i know a few companys have minamen requirments on attendance and grade to be able to applie
