Job Placement
Most students that enter our campus are looking for life change and career change not just a chance to go to school. Therefor helping them all the way through to the finishline even before they get there is key to elevating their positive attitude and winningness to complete. Knowing that we are encouraging a career and not just job placemetn is huge, this can make or break retaining the student.
Yes, I agree and just to add not only education is important, your attitude is also very important.
terri,
Great comment and so right on the money. Thank you for your comment.
Ron Hansen, Ed. D.
I thing we have to remember that it is not just a "job" students are seeking it is a "career" and that takes work on everyone part.
I encourage students with guest speakers, having them complete job searches for their feild online. I also bring back bast students to speak about their job experience.
Shana,
Yes, guest speakers reinforce the learning and keep an eye on the end goal.
Ron Hansen, Ed. D.
Understanding the career path and having guest speaker from the profession motivates student to remain dedicated to complete the program.
hossai,
Guest speakers do reinforce what students learn.
Ron Hansen, Ed. D.
Yes we have to always encourage and give details to our students in their career paths. I bring in guest speakers that are currently in the field just to motivate and show them the jobs out there.
Susan,
Exposing students to their chosen career field is a great reinforcement. Thank you for your post.
Ron Hansen, Ed. D.
I believe it is important to take field trips to potential places of employement while they are in school. This gets them excited about the possibilities ahead of them. Then it is a little easier for the career services to do their job!
Shawn,
Setting proper expectations is important and an ongoing need.
Ron Hansen, Ed. D.
I try to impress upon my students the possibility that through hard work anything can be accomplished. I review with them the Power Point slide which our employment department sends out every time we have a Career Fair. I point out to the students the expectations of the possible employers they may be interested in.
DANIEL,
Students also need to hear about the career path within their chosen field.

We need to tell them how good this career is and how good it feels
Reminding the students that their education no one can take away from them.

Hilary,
It is important to keep impressing their education or training is leading them to a life change and not merely a salary. Your post is reflective of that concept. Thank you.
