Job Readiness
Externship is a valuable ground for student job readiness. The process helps students to prepare and builds on their personal goals. But it should still start at campus, with faculty enforcing postive retention.
Inviting future potential employers to the school helps keep the students motivated.
Stephan ,
A follow up list of where you sent resumes or of students whose resumes were sent out?
Ron Hansen, Ed. D.
One thing I've found helpful to students is making a follow up list and phone numbers of resumes we mail out for students.
April,
A great piece of advice. Thank you for sharing.
Ron Hansen, Ed. D.
Externships are a great motivator. I also agree with enforcing positive reinforcement to maintain retention. Constructive criticism is crucial, but as faculty we have to remember that praise goes along way with motivating the student learner. One great piece of advice I ever received was to put myself in the students shoes and what would I like to see and how do I learn. This allowed me to connect more than the students.
Henry,
Yes, that is where it starts and should be reinforced all the way through the program.
Ron Hansen, Ed. D.
Doris,
Yes, externships are a great way for students to learn and get a job,
Ron Hansen, Ed. D.
Externship is a positive way to push the students in the field and give them the opportunity to maybe get hired straight out of college.
