First Time
This is the first time I have heard about HABES. I found it very interesting and informative. I can see how these can affect our teaching ability and can reflect on our teaching.
Kristin,
It is important to recognize positive and negative HABEs and work with your students accordingly.

This is also the first time I have heard of the HABEs. But it makes total sense how the habits, attitudes, beliefs, and expectations are all formed when we are so little. It makes me understand my students a little more since I can from a very supportative family and was not the first to graduate in my family, and most of my students are opposite of my situation growing up.
First time for me as well! These raise questions for me to reflect upon, based on my own experiences and future choices as an instructor and future mentor. . Some students have no models or mentors nor the necessary HABEs to be successful. HABEs are essential to understand in order to model/mentor. So grateful for this introduction.
Dealing with 30 plus attitudes on a daily basis and working with their own needs.
Learning how to understand each student and understanding their skill levels.
I agree Roy and I want to add that it can be difficult to overcome some negative thoughts especially with some difficult students. It does take some time and effort to work through these difficult times but the end result will help retention, mentoring and student development.
I agree Jason, I had never heard of these either, but this makes perfect sense. I can say that I have in the past, thought many of the same negative thoughts many students have, and it takes some time to build confidence and overcome these thoughts and feelings.
Learning how to overcome and understand each student.
I read about it and laughed. I have a six year old at the house. To think that he has already formed "HABEs" means I'm in trouble. I always tell my students that life is like navigation, you need to know where you are, or came from, to know where you're going.
looking at one self and not just the student as haveing the problem gives you the opertunity to make your self better as an instructer
HABEs are very important to understand! Many of our students are the first in their families to go to college and have no models or mentors nor the necessary HABEs to be successful. That's why you and your staff must become their models and mentors.
This is the first time that HABEs was outlined to me too. Learning how to overcome and understand where each student comes from really gives an advantage to be a better supporter and mentor. I think each school official will have a greater success rate with students when they focus on HABEs.
