Comfortable Environment
I try to make the learning environment stress free. All work by students gets done, but we listen to the radio, and enjoy our work. Sharing humerous stories I have seen in the industry help keep lectures interesting. Scott H.
Harold,
Most education theorists would say this is a poor teaching appropach as students need to be engaged whether they like to answer question in class or prefer to remain silent. Also, asking questions to individual students allows the teacher to get a sense of onjective mastery before a test or quiz.

I try to make the learning environment as stress free as possible by not pointing out particular students to answer questions.
I also agree as well. I enjoy laughing and cutting up with my students. The stress level goes down before a test and I am able to see better grades from them as well.
I agree I think the more they are able to relax and really focus on learning the more successful they end up being.
I agree. I often try to lighten things up, especially when we are talking about a difficult medical subject matter. When the topic gets dry, or has affected a student's life (with self, family, or friends), such as AIDS, cancer, heart disease, I usually tell a short story about how a patient of family member had the disease. Then frequently, the students begin to participate as well. We cut back from lecturing a bit, and talk about real life and what diseases really do to people and what these students will really see out in the real world.
They are able to relax some, and learn and share from eachother. We can sometimes cover a lot of difficult materail in a conversation, rather than lecture.
Establishing a comfortable, yet professional environment is very important, Scott. Thanks for sharing this.
