Education as a Business
Have you heard, "Are you in the business of teaching or in the teaching business? " This is a statement that tends to confuse many people. In my opinion, either way one look at the statement, if a educational facility wants to stay in business, it must create products(graduates) that are useful to employers and the community at large. Through good business practices of customer service and educating students, the education business will strive.
Especially in a technical trade school, where the student is a customer and also the product that the institution supplies to the industry that they service. It is an equally beneficial cycle to all three parties when success is realized. However, it is often the Institution that recieves an unjust portion of blame when failure occurs...
I agree with your thought process. Sometimes it is hard to get educators to understand that institutions are also businesses, and students are our customers to a certain degree.
Barbara,
We need to inspire students to stay in school as we develop quality graduates. It is a rewarding challenge.
