Roy,
The teacher is the mist important asset in the school. Books and recordings cannot replace the cnnection a good classroom or online teacher can make nor can they provide the same "value-added" experience.

"Helpful Hints from Heloise"
I have been involved in Computers from the early 1980's, so as I talk about them, I am always giving out information I have observed over the years as an IT Professional, things that are never in the book. The only people that get these hints and such are those in class...thus not only am I giving them "Value Added", but also letting them know that by being absent, they will miss something that will make life easier...
TC,
Thanks for this post. Taking personal pride is important.

I try to keep the students interested by relating the tasks and subjects towards the end result or goal. Like their carreer, IE... how would a motorcycle custoomer feel if this job was incorrectly done on his bike. How would you feel if it was your personal bike? and so on.
As a teachnician, teaching allittle competition into the class helps the students try, Just be carefull not to put as much emfissus on the win, but more on the challenge.
Terry,
What are some of the techniques you employ to keep students interested?
