Dont be afraid to make fun of yourself, i have no problem sharing the dumb things i have done over the years.the students love it.
David,
This is very true. It is easier for seasoned instructors to notice when students are getting the content, even without smiles.
I second this method I was taught you learn more with a smile than a boot in your butt.
the names change but the smiles from the students let you know its good and it works
Jesus,
This is an excellent point. Interest is very important in every class. Some subjects seems to be a more enjoyable experience, while others are somewhat difficult and need a change in scenery, or addition of music.
Having fun while learning is a very important aspect of keeping students interested in the material. A number of instructors take the approach that they are they to restate information already contained in the power point of in the students hand outs. Although this may be the case in some classroom environments, it's always up to the instructor how the information is received. By changing the scenery, adding music, and getting the students more involved the instructor can teach the students the class content while creating an enjoyable experience.
Joseph,
I am positive that your classes are a blast!! Music, change of scenery and activities are a great way to keep students engaged.
