First of all appreciate the effort that students put to attend class because of the students you have a job. You must make sure to schedule time effectively so students go home every day confident that they learned something new and gained new skills. Instructors must educate themselves on a daily basis to ensure they are knowledgeable about the subject matter they teach and are updated on the new technology used in their field of study.
When students believe their time is well spent, they will attend. When they are convinced the instructor is knowledgeable and investing in educating them they will be retained.
Jane,
Not only do teachers need students, they need to like them, they need to inspire them and they need to be inspired by them.
Teacher and students go hand in hand. if there are no students then there will be no one there to teach. If there are no teachers then what is the purpose of being a student.
Student self-motivation is greatly impacted by the level of faculty engagement within their field. To relay to a student how the practical apsects of their education will provide a competitive advantage in the workplace and personal self-actualization for extrinsically motivated societal reward is sometimes a challenge. The current organizational environment for many businesses is restrictive to these successes. Therefore, more focus can be placed on entrepreneural student enterprises.

You cannot teach if there is no one willing to be taught. Instructors must commit themselves to providing their students the best learning experience possible. Students make the initial investment by applying for the program, it is then the responsibility of the instructor to make sure the student is provided the most current information so she/he can successfully gain employment.
It is a win-win when both the student and instructor are committed to succeeding as a team.
