It is good to have a first impression on the students first, that can give me a "head start" and I am able to read the class, learn their intentions, manners, and their level of motivation. Before the first official meeting I can make sure I fulfill their expectations from the start.

By establishing a positive enviroment from the first day of class and building on that foundation as class goes on.

I agree and smile can definitely go a long way...Especially as a staff member in a school. I've worked in schools for about 10 years and I feel that as representatives we should always have a smile on at work no matter what personal problems we may be having.

I would say by smiling and introducing who you are.

Next, I would show the student that you have an interest in who they are. Ask what their name is, what they are studying, and what some of their goals are.

I always great them and smile. We set clear boundaries and practices on the first day so that they are comfortable and know what is expected.

I always ask them how they are doing and why are they here. I getto know them so I have a better understanding of where they are coming from

We can provide the best customer service and show them that we care about them and their future.

I believe sincerity is very important when forming the first impression. Through the years I have always pushed myself to be a better person. The first smile, greeting, the quick remembering of the students names are important. To follow I feel the sincere desire to assist in any way possible to help a student goes a long way.

Hello,

I believe a first impression counts and it is important to treat people they way you want to be treated. Always be polite, smile, greet, assist etc.

A quote “ people may forget what you say and do but they will never forget how you made them feel”

Remembering their names as fast as possible, that simple action shows you care about them.

Patrick,

It is important to male a "good first impression" at the start of every class meeting. What are some things you do to accomplish this in your classes?

To make a first good impression, smile, be natural, make eye contact, have a nice phrase to welcome, show excitment of meeting them...

by receiving them outside the door, holding the door open and saying hello to each and everyone of them individually. I find that by allowing them to enter the class room first akes them feel important and respected. it shows that everybody, including myself, are walking into that class room as a group. WE share the space, they are not in my domain.

Michael,

Thank you for this post. I like believe each class meeting gives us a chance to make a new "first impression" for that day. The opening few minutes of each class meeting should be well planned in order to set the atmosphere for learning.

I believe there are a number of things we do and can do to make a good first impression. I think being proffessional in both your speech and dress plays a big part along with being prepared for class. I also agree that greeting the students, smiling and making eye contact goes right along with this. I could name more but I feel it's an entire package we must present to the student.

A positive first impression will create the first contact with students. It should reflect the truth and nothing should be made up. The reason of this is that in order to confirm the first impression, anything that will done past that first time frame should confirm. In other words, speaking the truth, being consistent over time will help maintain that first impression.

On the other hand, a negative first impression will require major adjustments to change the recipient's perception of who you are.

Be excited about waht your teaching. Tell the students about your experiences and then have your students talk about themselves on the very first day of classes. This ice breaker demonstrates that you have an vested interest in knowing about your student's lives.

To make a better first impression with every new student one should smile, say hello, and give a handshake to show acknowledgement and interest in meeting them. I also truly believe that one’s body language also has a huge role in the first impression, stand tall, confident, and dressing professional for the job is also key.

I look them in the eyes, smile and great them. This shows I see them as a person and have respect for them. I also carry my self in a proffesional way..To set the tone for the class

Eye contact, listening, maybe extra research on a topic or question they might have can go along way in showing a student you care.
