Student Motivation
I like this topic, motivation is a very important point to should the students and make them be sucesseful.
Motivation is the driving force that makes us want to excel in a particular area. I do believe that if students are motivated intrinsically, they will succeed.
All must get involved in motivation and motivate the students in every step of the way. I'm a believer and I do support and motivate all students constantly, it helps them feel appreciated and they see that you care for their education and future.
Jacqueline,
Some folks say that there is no way to motivate someone else; that all we can do is to try to establish conditions in which students choose to make the choices we hope they will make. What do you thing of this idea?
Jeffrey Schillinger
I agree to motivate students entails many factors. Most depends on the instructor enthusiasm
relievance of the material to be taught. It also depends on the organization of the course, difficulty levels of the material and how active we get involve with the students. We have to have a good rapport between the instructors and the students. But I also feel that student need to motivate themselves by setting goals and trying there best to achieve them.
Self-esteem, is one key to motivation, believe in yourself, I tell students about some my experiences. Think positive
I agree that we need to help the students motivate themselves. Talk to them find out what there goals are and remind them of those goals to keep the picture fresh in their mind when things get tough. Perhaps even challenge them to look beyond their goals to something even more that they may not have considered before and give examples of those who reached those goals and startred right where they are now such as yourself or former students.
James,
It is nice to see that you recognize the power an instructor has to create the environment.
Jeffrey Schillinger
Simplistic, but very true. Creating an environment for a student to motivate themselves entails many factors. Most depend on the instructor. Can the teacher teach? Can he inspire others? Does he present himself as an example? Is he confident in the subject matter? This is hardly a complete, but I would say this would be the short list of competencies an instructor needs to demonstrate to have any hope of encouraging an good learning environment to motivate students.
Denise,
Some folks believe it is not possible to motivate someone. They say all we can do is to create an environment in which students choose to motivate themselves. What do you think?
