First impressions
First impressions mean everything. I was walking through the hallway and had something on my mind and did not greet a new student, later i had that student in one of my classes and the student didnt warm up to me for days later i talked to the student and found out they were holding on to the moment that i did not great them to make them feel welcome.
Ernida,
One of my peers used to talk about making a good first impression in every class meeting.

When I first encounter my students for the first time, I have to make sure I put on the best show. I show my students my "Im here to make you successful" face. Making an unforgetable first impression makes a lasting impression.
Most my students are younger and very impressionable. First impressions and positivity go along way.
Ted,
My mentor spoke about making a great "first impression" in each class meeting. What are one or two ways you get your classes off to a good start?
Jeffrey Schillinger
Being prepared is important, we only get one chance for a first impression.
Parthenia,
I like to plan my classes so that there is a great "first impression" every call meeting. How do you start classes in exciting and interesting ways?
Jeffrey Schillinger
I agree. "First Impressions" is the key into whether a student and /or potential student will be motivated into becoming better
I agree that first impressions are very important to students. If they do not know you and you do not smile and introduce yourself they always assume you are the bad guy until they get to know you.
This is why it is important to give every person you encounter 100%, even if it may not be one of your best days. You never know how this person may connect to you in the future.
Andrea ,
I think we also have a chance to make an important "first impression" each time we meet with our students.

There is a famous quote that states: “you only have one chance to make a first impression†that statement rings very true in the learning process. On the first day of every class, my aim is to create a positive impression of: the school as a warm and friendly environment, the subject matter as interesting and stimulating and me as a competent and professional individual. Some of the ways that this is demonstrated is by dressing professionally, arranging the classroom in a student center learning environment- meaning the students have a valuable impute in the learning process, and giving personal insights of the field.
Cynthia,
Port City must be god if you gave up Dunkin coffee. :)
Jeffrey Schillinger
I agree whole heartedly with that comment. I was in the habit of going to Dunkin Donuts for my coffee, and one morning I stopped at Port City Java, the coffee was good and the service was fast, so I went back a second day; the women who serviced me remembered my order and my name and said my name at the drive-thru after taking my order, this is the new place to buy coffee.
Our students like good customer service as well.
I was taught a long time ago about personalization, always look at nametags and greet them by their name. It makes a connection and a greater personal experience for all parties.
I have found that First impressions with students make a huge difference. They can either motivate or turn off the student, then it takes forever to get them back...
Chef Larry, you are right, the students do remember these small gesters and to us they are just that, small gesters but, to them it is a welcoming and a since of belonging.
