Learn about their goals and intergrate ideas as to how they can achieve them based on material also needed to learn in class.
For example if we are learning about databases I ask students to see where they currently use them and find ways that information can be added to enhance performance.
Childcare worker= parents check in children+data is collected for background and billing purposes
I discuss with them what they find important as far as goals, and what they value in their present state of life.
I continually encourage them, as they go through the program, and remind them of these reasons and goals, and what they have achieved so far.
By being able to adjust when neccesary to accomplish the task at hand, without compromising the learning the learning outcome.
I give happy feedback to student. I tell them about life in communist country and how good to be in america.
I give lots of positive feedback, and when feedback is negative, I put a positive face on it. I also relate a lot of my life experiences in a very positive way.
Self-efficacy is a person's belief in their ability to cause, to bring about, or to make something happen. What do you do to to inspire your students or your co-workers to greater self-efficacy?
Absolutely, everyone can do better and be better, they just have to believe in their self. Not every day is Christmas but it is what you make it and sometimes you can encourage the hearts of other with just a few kinds works.
I have had a good amount of student that have done amazing things after graduating school. I take those positive stories, to show the student that anything can be possible if we work hard, feel passion for what we do.
I like to encourage students by giving them constant feedback. I also like to talk to them about previous experiences whitin the industry so they can understand the relevance of what they are learning. Regarding faculty, I think coperation its the most important point.
I talk about the many roadblocks I had to overcome personally to achieve my degree(s). Sometimes students feel like they are the only ones who have to overcome obstacles to succeed. I also talk about other well-known people who have become successful despite adverse circumstances.
With our students we are constantly coaching them as it is part of the fitness profession and it allows the students to learn how to effectively coach others. Each class that our students take they create a goal that is very specific, measurable, action-based, realistic, and time constrained. We help them put together a goal that they would like to accomplish during the length of the course to inspire them to set and achieve goals on a reoccurring basis.
Edward,
As a similar other, you are iun a unique position to be a role model.

I started at the bottom and worked my way up and this encourages most of my students
Susan,
Thanks for this post. It is really important to provide opportunities for our students where "failure isn't fatal." Eventually, they have to master the objectives, butthey can get there taking baby steps.

I make a point to praise both correct actions and "approximately" right actions.
I think people get stuck and stop taking initiative when they are afraid of doing the wrong thing. Or worse, I've seen projects and activities undone over concerns things aren't good enough.
The best way I can help my students and staff is to let people try to do things and focus on where there efforts were fruitful. We've had more student activities this way, and while some were better than others, we found some new innovative ways to help our students.
I focus on positive encouragement. My position actually allows me to work with students who are at risk so many come with a defeated attitude. I work with them and help them academically and when they finally grasp the concept, I cheer for them and make it a big deal. Something as simple as being excited for them really motivates them and it helps them see that they can indeed do it. It builds their confidence and they develop self-efficacy.
I like graduation. We invite the Junior Cohort to help and assist the graduating class. Students getting involved in the event will get inspired. This event will bring motivation and inspiration. Each student will have a glance of what can be. This in return will entice the student to do well and graduate. Thank You, Veronica
My action would be to encourage each of my students are they proceed in each assignment.
I think we help our students constantly. Our population is full of students that don't have a lot of positive things happen in their lives. I think by showing our student a picture of what their lives can look like after they complete our program helps them to understand they can make positive thing happen in their lives. When they hit a block we are there to remind them of why they are in school. How their kids and parent are proud of what they are accomplishing.
Heather,
Presenting one's self as a "similar other" can go a long way toward establishing rapport and believability.

Since i was a full time student her at the college, I tell them about how i sttruggled and worked full time and went to school in the evenings. I understand how it feels to sit in class and make time for studying and work and I had to go through all of the same obstacles, when you can relate to them they know you are human and it they feel they can come to you for help! They trust you.
