Positive Influence
Positive Influence;
Generally when an instructor keeps a positive influence the students do too. Most of the students feed off of the instructor attitude.
Many of our struggling students often exhibit poor attendance records. The reasons vary greatly from case to case, but this is where the Instructor needs to recognize their ability to influence. They can help make them want to be here!
As you teach your course smiling and upbeat generates a positive air and the students enjoy what they are learning. On the other hand if you are frowning and sarcastic this generates a negative air and it is then not fun. Happy students will "stay the course" and years later, will recommend your school to others.
Thank you, Ronnie.
It is really amazing how often a positive person that makes an effort can turn around someone's day.
I would have to agree with this statement. I notice that when a student is having a bad day, if I have a positive reaction to his/her problem it seems to lessen their negative look at the situation.
Always having a good attitude has a positive influence on people around you either when your around them or when people talk about you
Thanks, Billy.
I worked with a wise instructor who always said that the most important thing he did in class was to "give them a reason to come back tomorrow." It sounds like you are doing that.
I would agree, the students do feed off of you as and instructor. I would say that giving them and positive attitude helps with there retention as well. with a over all good experience the student is more likely to come back. I like to have my students leave my class feeling thy had a good day and give them a comment in a positive manner about the good performance for the day as a class.
I belileve a positive attitude of the instructor goes a long way in influencing students, However here we are not allowed to be around student off campus because it may be misconstrued as fratinization
Thanks, Jan.
Research shows the time students spend with faculty members outside of the classroom has one ofhte biggest impacts on retention. The time does not have to be face-to-face, though that is preferred.
Phone calls, emails and texts can have a measurable impact on some students. Please keep up the good work.
I agree the positive influence starts with the class instructor. Encouragement, academic assistance, resources for outside issues, smiles, active listening, asking questions, follow up and calls when absent also impart a positive influence.
