I will. That's a good place to leave "bad" feelings before you step in front of students. I just hope I don't hurt my truck's feelings.

Helping the student to understand that because of their life problems, the education and goals would be a significant part in changing their lives in those aspects as well.

Rose,

Great post. You understand how important it is to show enthusiasm.

Jeffrey Schillinger

I try to be the classroom cheerleader for everyone. I clap and applaud good participation, not always the right answers, but getting them thinking is important!

I totally agree with you! I have a personal goal/habit of making sure that I start off my day being positive! Nothing is that horrid that I will let it get in my way! I share this philosophy with my students. I tell them that if something negative/bad happens to you, just keep thinking positive and usually within 24 hrs it doesn't seem to be all that negative/bad.

kevin,

Most people cannot simply leave life's problems in their car. What advise can you give to help folks do this?

Jeffrey Schillinger

I work with this guy and this does work.Dont bring your problems to work leve them at home or in you car, it will help you to be positive at your job

Absolutely correct, Larry. The best thing about teaching is that you get to set the mood every day.

Jeffrey Schillinger

I have always tried to stay in a positive mood. Especially in the classroom. Things in life are dealt with so much better when people are in a good mood.

Daniel,

Many people are not able to do this. How do you deal with students who are letting life's problems impact them in the classroom or lab?

Jeffrey Schillinger

Every day when I get out of the car in the morning to go to class I talk to my car. I tell it to keep my troubles for me while I go to work.

As I go into the classroom I can concentrate on what I am doing "It's show time". No matter what my private problems are they stay in the car.

I have used the same technique to leave my work problems outside my house. I know it sounds kooky but give it a try.

Robert,

What is the most positive thing about your job?

Jeffrey Schillinger

I agree, but we are not happy 100% of the time and need to find ways to let that go when we are in front of, or dealing with students.

Everyone needs to get something positive out of what they do for work. Finding that positive aspect every day can help project a good atmosphere from you out to others around you.

When someone is not happy, you can generally see it in them. When people are happy you can see this too. That is why it is important to come to work in a good mood. You can project onto other people.
